I think blockchains are a really important technology and are going to change the way applications are built. A lot of people have been trying to understand what they mean and whether they are missing out on all the cryptocoin boom. This meant I’ve spent quite some time trying to explain how these things work to a lot of people. Given that there’s a lot of content that does a good job of explaining what blockchains are, how they work, why they are important, I do not feel the need to write another blockchain 101 post. So, I’m compiling a list I think would help in one’s understanding of the blockchain.
Bitcoin:
- This is a link to a very well written comprehensive article that explains blockchains well
- The original Bitcoin paper
- The same paper annotated
- The blockchain demo on Anders
- Stanford course on Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies
- Explain bitcoin like I’m five, this is good to explain these concepts to somebody else
- About the energy bitcoin consumes

Challenges:
- A good list of the challenges that blockchains face
- The biggest challenge I think is privacy, so here’s a survey paper about that
